Training Techniques & Philosophy

Some trainers think that all dogs can be trained alike. Either using 100% purely positive or 100% negative/force-based training.

Fact: dogs like people have different personalities and temperaments. What works for a high energy field bred hunting labrador will not work for a soft, gentle, low energy toy poodle.

The philosophy of A Better Pet Dog Training is Motivation. The ability to balance positive and negative motivators to create a better relationship between the dog and owner is what separates A Better Pet Dog Training apart from the competition.

A Better Pet Dog Training was the First Dog Training Company in Idaho to designed and complete a Comprehensive Canine Personality Profile for each client’s dog based on the individuals unique temperament, stress level, learning index and the owners personal situation and goals.

Since we introduced this concept over 15 years ago several other trainers have since began copying and using this approach. As trainers it is not our job to force an owner to use one technique of training, but rather we are here to help educate the owner on the variety of training techniques that are available and to help each owner find the techniques that will work best for their dogs personality as well as blend with the owners personal goals and situation.

A Better Pet Dog Training Takes Great pride in developing personal training techniques for each owner.
